GLS brings automated fulfilment to Kolding
GLS is extending its parcel business into fulfilment in Denmark with a purpose-built centre in Kolding. The site will unite warehousing, picking, packing and parcel delivery in one operating model for small and medium-sized e-commerce companies.
The initial facility will provide 5,000 square metres of fulfilment space, with an expansion path to 15,000 square metres and a further 550 square metres allocated to administration. It is planned to become operational before the 2027 peak season.
Automation close to the parcel network
Technology is central to the design. The semi-automated site will use an AutoStore automated storage system together with an automated sorting belt. These systems are intended to increase flexibility as order volumes develop and limit the amount of manual handling required in day-to-day operations.
The centre will be built at Trianglen in Kolding, approximately two kilometres from GLS Denmark’s existing hub. That proximity will allow fulfilment activities to feed directly into the national parcel network, reducing the organisational separation between storage and final distribution.
For retailers, the model offers a single logistics interface covering inventory positioning, order preparation and delivery. The company says this can simplify operations while helping merchants place stock nearer to consumers. More information about the wider group is available from GLS.
Part of a wider fulfilment expansion
Kolding is the latest addition to a fulfilment network that GLS has been developing since 2023. The group already operates comparable centres in Germany, Hungary, Spain, Slovenia and Canada. The Danish investment therefore supports a broader strategy to connect parcel infrastructure with storage and e-commerce processing.
The project is also expected to create around 30 jobs in Kolding. Its combination of scalable floor space, automated storage and direct parcel-network access gives GLS Denmark a platform for expanding fulfilment capacity as demand from online retailers changes.
