Ian Wright to cycle 450km across Tanzania for Transaid
Ian Wright is preparing for a five-day cycling challenge across Tanzania, covering more than 450km from the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro to the Indian Ocean as part of Team Transaid.
The route includes over 2,700m of ascent, making the event a substantial endurance test rather than a recreational ride. Heat, difficult terrain and cumulative fatigue will all place demands on riders as they cross the country.

Transport with a direct social impact
Wright’s fundraising supports Transaid, which works across sub-Saharan Africa to improve safe, reliable and sustainable transport. Its work includes road-safety initiatives, stronger transport systems and better access to healthcare. For industrial and logistics professionals, the challenge offers a practical reminder that transport infrastructure is not only a commercial enabler: in many communities, it determines whether people can reach medical care, education, jobs and essential services.
Peter MacLeod, a Transaid Ambassador and Wright’s colleague, said his own journey through Tanzania had shown him the distances, roads and terrain faced by communities that depend on transport. He described the ride as a meaningful way to connect the logistics sector with the operating realities addressed by the charity’s programmes.
Final preparations and industry backing
Before departure, Wright is completing his training, checking equipment and reducing the weight of his pack. He remains slightly short of his fundraising goal, and donations can be made through his fundraising page.
Europa Warehouse is the main sponsor, with additional support from GenieGrips, PALLITE Group Ltd and Prologis UK. BIFA is headline sponsor of the challenge, while Chelsea Group is supporting sponsor. Wright has also discussed the ride with Transaid CEO Caroline Barber in a special Logistics Business Conversations episode.
