Danish automation company Global AGV has expanded its autonomous forklift range with the L20, a model capable of transporting loads weighing up to two tonnes. The development responds to industrial customers that needed more capacity without accepting a substantially larger vehicle.
Compared with the company’s L14, the L20 adds 600 kg of lifting capacity, representing a 40% increase. Yet its width and height remain unchanged, while its overall length grows by just 12 cm. That combination is intended to preserve manoeuvrability in production areas and tightly arranged warehouse aisles.
More payload without a larger operating envelope
The vehicle is designed to turn in confined spaces and move loaded pallets autonomously between defined locations, including the loading dock. Maintaining the dimensions of the existing models is particularly relevant for sites where production equipment, storage positions and traffic routes leave little room for redesign.
Heavy bulk bags used in food manufacturing were among the applications behind the project. Materials such as flour and butter can create pallet loads beyond the L14’s 1,400 kg limit. The first three L20 trucks are already operating at international production facilities, including two units transporting heavy fish pallets in Iceland.
Automation aimed at operational value
Global AGV is part of the BILA Group. The group’s autonomous forklift concept was developed to remove repetitive driving from operators’ daily work and allow people to focus on activities that create greater value.
The company says the business case can be strong where automation releases employees for other duties. In an example cited by Global AGV, reallocating two workers could enable the system to recover its cost in under a year. For manufacturers, the L20 therefore combines a higher payload with an automation upgrade that does not require a major change to the facility layout.
