Cadent is expanding its Birmingham logistics footprint through a 10-year lease for DC4 at Prologis Park Bromford Gate. The 80,000 sq ft facility sits beside Cadent’s existing National Distribution Centre, allowing the gas network operator to bring its Birmingham-based activities together in one industrial location.
The agreement is Prologis’ first transaction with Cadent. Both companies worked through the lease and building specification at pace, while Cadent has already begun fitting out the unit. The company aims to start operating from DC4 in early 2027.
A consolidated base for a national network
For Cadent, the site combines a strategic location with additional capacity. The company manages 82,000 miles of gas pipelines across the Northwest, the East and West Midlands, the East of England and London. A larger, consolidated Birmingham base can support the operational requirements of that network while keeping the new facility close to the organisation’s existing distribution infrastructure.
Cadent’s Real Estate Strategy Manager, Robert Martin, said the timing of the available unit matched the company’s needs and that the lease was secured quickly. The move is also expected to create approximately 100 new jobs in Birmingham, increasing Cadent’s local employment base and its contribution to the West Midlands economy.
Capacity alongside established occupiers
Bromford Gate is already home to GXO, Stellantis and Fischer Farms. The Cadent agreement takes the park to full occupancy and illustrates how flexible deal-making and building specifications can help industrial occupiers adapt facilities to their operating models.
Prologis says its remaining West Midlands availability is now concentrated at Prologis Park Coventry. Refurbished DC13 provides 228,000 sq ft, while 184,000 sq ft DC8 is being refurbished for completion in December 2026. For companies assessing new distribution capacity, the Coventry units represent the next available Prologis options in the region.
The development is relevant beyond property strategy. Consolidated sites can simplify material flows, reduce duplication between facilities and provide a clearer platform for future warehouse systems or process upgrades. Cadent’s planned fit-out will determine how the new space supports its day-to-day network operations.
Cadent is the UK’s largest gas distribution network. Prologis Park Bromford Gate is positioned as an urban logistics location serving Birmingham and the wider Midlands.
