Panabad digitises frozen bakery logistics near Barcelona
Frozen bakery producer Panabad has commissioned a new 2,500 m² logistics centre in Sant Quirze del Vallès, near Barcelona, as it expands production and distribution. The facility combines Mecalux’s Easy WMS with high-density storage for more than 3,000 pallets.
The site manages over 200 stock-keeping units covering Panabad’s range of pre-cooked frozen bread products. The company processes more than 7,000 tonnes of flour annually and supplies over 2,000 customers, creating a need for tighter inventory control and a logistics operation able to scale with demand.

Software-led control of frozen inventory
Easy WMS records incoming pallets and assigns storage locations according to turnover and product volume. This creates a structured flow from receipt to dispatch while improving visibility across the warehouse. Information on Mecalux software illustrates the type of warehouse-management capability being applied at the site.
Storage capacity was a central consideration in the project. Mecalux installed two high-density systems, allowing Panabad to hold more than 3,000 pallets within the available footprint. For a frozen-food operation, higher density can support growth without requiring an immediate expansion of the building.
Shorter routes in a -20°C environment
The warehouse operates at -20°C, so reducing the time employees spend inside the cold store is both an operational and workplace priority. Easy WMS generates picking routes on operators’ radio-frequency terminals, directing them through sequences intended to avoid unnecessary travel.
According to Panabad general manager Julián Martín, the approach helps staff complete orders faster while limiting exposure to low temperatures. The result is a more coordinated model for receiving, storing and distributing products, with digital instructions supporting day-to-day execution.
For Panabad, the new centre is therefore more than additional warehouse space. It provides a digitally managed platform for handling a growing product range and customer base while making frozen logistics more predictable and efficient.
